Themes
Aori includes two theme families — Catppuccin and Tokyo Night — both of which are popular community palettes used across many developer tools and editors. You can change the theme in Settings → Appearance → Theme.
Catppuccin
Section titled “Catppuccin”Catppuccin is a warm, pastel color scheme with four variants ranging from light to very dark. It uses soft purples, blues, greens, and pinks rather than harsh whites and blacks, making long sessions more comfortable.
The light variant. Background is a soft warm white (#EFF1F5), text is a muted blue-grey (#4C4F69), and the accent is a deep violet (#8839EF). Good for bright environments and daylight use.
Frappé
Section titled “Frappé”A medium dark variant. Background is a cool blue-grey (#303446) with lavender-tinted text (#C6D0F5) and a soft mauve accent (#CA9EE6). Sits between light and dark — comfortable in mixed lighting.
Macchiato
Section titled “Macchiato”A darker variant. Background deepens to #24273A with similar lavender text and a slightly lighter purple accent (#C6A0F6). Designed for lower-light settings.
The darkest Catppuccin variant. Background is a deep navy-black (#1E1E2E) with cool lavender text (#CDD6F4) and a soft lilac accent (#CBA6F7). Best for dark rooms and night use. This is the most popular Catppuccin variant.
Tokyo Night
Section titled “Tokyo Night”Tokyo Night is a dark blue palette inspired by the neon-lit streets of Tokyo at night. It uses cool blues and purples with a clean, high-contrast feel.
The core Tokyo Night palette. Background is a deep blue-black (#1A1B26), text is a cool periwinkle (#C0CAF5), and the accent is a vivid cornflower blue (#7AA2F7). Great for focused coding sessions.
A slightly lighter variant of Night, with a blue-grey background (#24283B) instead of the deeper navy. Offers a bit more visual breathing room while keeping the same colour language.
The light variant of Tokyo Night. Background is a soft cool grey (#E1E2E7), text is a saturated royal blue (#3760BF), and the accent is a brighter blue (#2E7DE9). The most different from the other Tokyo Night variants — strongly blue-toned even in its light version.
Changing the Theme
Section titled “Changing the Theme”On the Aori app: go to Settings → Appearance → Theme and select any of the seven variants. The theme applies immediately across all open windows and persists across restarts.
On the Aori marketing pages: use the palette icon in the navigation bar to pick a theme. The marketing site offers all seven variants plus “System” (follows your OS preference).
In the docs and blog: use the built-in selector to choose Light, Dark, or Auto. These pages use a simpler theme switcher for readability and compatibility with the documentation layout.
